spencer reed

[alma 37:6 by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.]

i love my siblings. everyone of them. but my little man [spencer] is quite the kid. i am so impressed with him and the big choices he makes as such a little guy.

spencer's best friend is muslim. the muslim and the mormon, who'd of thought? these two are inseparable. and play every sport together, walk to school together, and go to scouts together. they are both great kids!

my mom was telling me the other day spencer forgot something at school and as she went back to get it the teacher pulled her aside and asked if spencer had told her what happened at school that day

. . .

spencer was having a hard time after he came in from recess.
he came in very sad and upset, not his normal self

spencer: "can i please speak to you in the hall for a minute?"
teacher: "well yes, of course spencer. what's going on?"

teacher: "he went on telling me that kids were making fun of (spencer's best friend)'s religion. spencer was so upset that people were doing that, and explained how
we are all Gods children
and then how the kids wanted to make the darker-skinned boy a slave. spencer said,
slavery is not right, we've done away with slavery, and again,
how we're all God's children despite religion or skin color."

the teacher started crying when she was sharing this story. she said it was very touching how the issue wasn't even about him but how he cared so much about taking a stand for others.

of course this story made me tear up too because having taught i see how truly important it is to teach our students and children the importance of loving everyone and standing up for others. i am so grateful that my parents have always made it a priority to teach us how to respect, treat, and love others.

sometimes its just one, small, simple thing [or person] that can really make a difference.

spencer is the greatest kid! i have so much fun with him and i always enjoy spending time with him. we both love to explore, play games, watch movies, learn about dinosaurs, make up stories, build forts, karaoke, and babysit caity and baby johnny.

what a brother!

thanks spence, for making a difference.
